Where to Stay in Huế: Best Areas & Best Hotels (2026)

Quiet old port in Hue facing a road lined with trees on both sides, included as a visual reference for where to stay in Hue.

Hue is compact, but picking the area that actually fits your style will shape your stay more than you’d expect.

I stayed on the south side of the Perfume River, close to food and cafés, and it turned out to be the most convenient base for a first visit. But Huế isn’t a one‑neighborhood city, staying near the Imperial City gives you a completely different, more atmospheric experience, and the outskirts offer quiet resorts surrounded by greenery.

I’ve traveled to Vietnam a couple of times, and on my last trip I spent two months slowly making my way from north to south. I’m also a comparer by nature, which means I spend far too much time weighing hotel options. Part of that is simply personality, but part of it is practical: there are plenty of questionable or outright fake reviews floating around, so it takes time to see through the noise and figure out what the genuinely good options are.

That habit is exactly what shaped this guide. Instead of listing every possible neighborhood, it starts with the best places to stay in Huế overall and then breaks down the three areas that actually matter for travelers — what each one feels like and the best hotels in each — so you can choose the version of Huế that fits your trip. Each recommended place is backed with plenty of great reviews from various sites.

Where Are the Best Hotels & Hostels in Huế

Even though Huế is quite small, there are plenty of options to choose from, these are my top picks for each travel style. Start by checking the map below to get an overview of the city and the recommended areas to stay.

How to Use the Map: Click the top-left corner to view and select map layers. Learn more about each area by clicking its area or sidebar entry. Use the map to get an overview of the recommend areas to stay in Huế. Purple dots are the recommend stays and the blue ones are the sights.

Best Hostel for a Social Stay | Bon Ami Hostel

Bon Ami Hostel sits in the tourist center, close to sights, restaurants, and bars. Breakfast and a complimentary towel are included, and you can choose between dorms and private rooms. There’s also a 24‑hour reception.

Best Place Right Next to The Forbidden City | Spatel d’Annam Hotel

For history buffs, staying inside the Imperial City — literally next to the Forbidden City — adds a whole extra layer to your trip. It’s the kind of location you’ll remember long after your retirement‑home storytelling years. This 3‑star hotel offers a peaceful stay with great rooms, an on‑site spa, and a pool.

Best Place in the City Center With a Pool | Meliá Vinpearl Huế

Located right in the center and proudly carrying its five Vietnamese stars, this is easily one of the best places in town. You get great views from comfortable rooms, plus a gym, a pool, and a restaurant overlooking the city. If you want to splurge on a high‑end stay that somehow still costs around $60 USD, this is the place to book.

Best Bang for Buck in the Center With a Pool | White Lotus Huế Hotel

A four‑Vietnamese‑star hotel in the city center, just a couple of minutes from the Perfume River. It has comfortable rooms, a pool, a well-equipped gym, and a skybar with fantastic river views. For about $35 USD, you can stay at White Lotus Huế Hotel, cool down in its refreshing pool after strolling around the Imperial City, and end the night at the skybar.

Best Stay For Longer than A Couple of Days | Huế Riverside Boutique Resort & Spa

A relaxed riverside resort in the countryside, ideal if you’re staying in Huế for more than a quick visit. It has calm, leafy surroundings, comfortable river‑facing rooms, a large garden pool, and good food. Guests often mention kayaking on the Perfume River and cycling around Thủy Biều as highlights. You’re about 15 minutes from the Imperial City by motorbike, and the resort offers free bicycles plus help with rentals or taxis. Expect to pay around $40 USD per night.

Best Areas in Huế for Travelers

City Center (South of the River)

Most travelers stay in the city center because it’s the most convenient base. You’re close to restaurants, cafés, the riverside promenade, and many hotels with pools at reasonable prices. It’s lively without being chaotic, and it’s the easiest area for first‑timers.

Imperial City (North of the River)

Staying north of the river, in the Imperial City (ancient city), is ideal for history buffs. A short stroll from your accommodation puts you among moats, gates, and centuries‑old architecture. It’s quieter than the city center and has a more local, atmospheric feel.

Countryside but still Close (Thủy Biều)

Thủy Biều is perfect if you’re after calm, greenery, and a slower pace. The area is filled with garden houses, small lanes, and boutique stays tucked into the trees — some simple, some offering poolside or spa‑level comfort. It’s close enough to the city for easy trips in and out, but quiet enough to feel like a retreat. If you base yourself here, stay at least two nights so you can actually enjoy the surroundings instead of rushing back and forth.

Huế has three distinct areas that suit different kinds of travelers. The most popular stay is the city center, where you have all the convenience: restaurants, cafés, night markets, and plenty of options on where to stay, whether you’re looking a social hostel, or a hotel with a pool for a decent price. It’s the busiest area in Huế, and the easiest base for first-timers.

For something calmer and more local, consider staying north of the River near the Imperial City, where historical sites sit just outside the doorstep of your accommodation and the atmosphere is noticeable quieter.

And if you want real countryside while still being just 15 minutes away from the center by Bolt, head to Thủy Biều, a green village area west of the city with garden houses, boutique stays, and a slower pace.

Huế’s Three Best Areas to Stay in

First, you need to choose which area suits you best. The best areas for travelers are the city center for a short and convenient stay, the Imperial City if you want history and a more local atmosphere, and Thủy Biều for peaceful countryside living that’s still close to the center.

City Center

Right in the heart of convenience, the city center is the easiest base for first‑timers in Huế. It’s walkable, practical, and close to cafés, restaurants, and everything you’ll want on a short stay.

Bon Ami Hostel

Bon Ami Hostel sits right in the heart of the tourist center, close to sights, local and Western restaurants, and bars. Breakfast is included, and you get a complimentary towel to use during your stay. There are both dorms and private rooms, so you can stay social even if you prefer your own space. The 24‑hour reception is also handy if you’re arriving late or heading out early.

Meliá Vinpearl Huế

Located right in the center and proudly carrying its five Vietnamese stars, this is easily one of the best places in town. The rooms are comfortable with wide city views, and the hotel stacks on the extras: a proper gym, a good pool, and a restaurant overlooking the skyline. What makes it stand out, though, is how effortless the stay feels — you can step outside into the heart of the city, explore for a few hours, and come back to a calm, high‑end space that feels far more premium than the price suggests. For a hotel that consistently delivers a polished experience at around $60 USD, it’s one of the easiest places in Huế to recommend.

White Lotus Huế Hotel

A four‑Vietnamese‑star hotel in the city center, just a couple of minutes from the Perfume River. It has comfortable rooms, a pool, a well-equipped gym, and a skybar with fantastic river views. For about $35 USD, you can stay at White Lotus Huế Hotel, cool down in its refreshing pool after strolling around the Imperial City, and end the night at the skybar.

Hotel La Perle

This place is a little pearl of affordability and decency in Huế. It’s on a quiet street in the heart of the city, so you avoid most of the honking while still being close to everything. Guests consistently praise the clean rooms and the warm, hospitable staff. Motorbikes can be rented directly from the accommodation. And if you’re a heavy consumer of coffee, tea, or bananas, you’re in luck — they offer all three for free, 24/7, at the reception.

Imperial City

Stay in the Imperial City if you want to be right next door to Huế’s historical sights. It’s an excellent area for quiet evening strolls or early‑morning jogs, with the walls, gates, and moats creating a pretty special backdrop.

Chi Homestay

This homestay sits in a quiet part of the Imperial City and consistently gets great reviews — not just for the rooms, but for the warm, helpful host. It offers both a dormitory and private rooms. Prices vary by season, but expect to pay about $15 USD per night for a private room and $7 USD for a dorm bed. It’s one of the cheapest ways to stay inside the Imperial City walls while still having a clean, comfortable place to sleep.

Spatel d’Annam Hotel

Staying inside the Imperial City is a rare experience — you’re not just near the history, you’re living inside it. This small 3‑star hotel sits right by the Forbidden City, giving you a base that feels both special and surprisingly peaceful. Mornings can start with palace gates and ancient courtyards, and after a few hours of sightseeing you can wander back here for quiet, a good room, and a genuinely relaxing pool. Add the on‑site spa and the calm atmosphere, and it becomes one of those stays that shapes the whole trip.

Country side (Thủy Biều)

The countryside is an excellent pick for longer stays, because it’s the kind of place where you actually want time to slow down. Ideally, you’ll spend your days lounging by the pool and wandering through the quiet surroundings without feeling like you’re missing out on any major sights.

Huế Riverside Boutique Resort & Spa

If you’re staying in Huế for more than just a couple of days, consider basing yourself in the countryside — right by the river in a boutique resort and spa. The surroundings are calm and leafy, giving the resort a relaxed, countryside feel. Guests often highlight kayaking on the Perfume River and cycling around Thủy Biều village as standout experiences.

The rooms are comfortable and face the river, the pool is large and set in the middle of the garden, and the food gets consistently good reviews. By motorbike, you’re about 15 minutes from the Imperial City and a little more from the city center.

The resort offers free bicycles for guests and can arrange motorbike rentals or taxis if you want to explore further. Expect to pay about $40 USD per night.
