National Parks in August
August is a strong wildlife month, especially in the north and central regions.
Excellent Conditions
- Minneriya / Kaudulla / Hurulu — One of the best months to see the huge elephant gatherings. Large elephant herds gather around the tanks.
- Wilpattu — Dry, good visibility, and reliable for leopards and sloth bears.
Decent Conditions
- Udawalawe — Elephants remain consistent, though windy conditions can affect sightings.
- Yala — Possible to have good drives, but vegetation is thick and weather can be unpredictable.
Not Recommended
- Kumana — still affected by monsoon patterns.
