Norrmalm
Central & Convenient
Norrmalm is the practical heart of Stockholm, the city’s central transport hub (this is where you’ll arrive from the airport), shops stay open, and everything is within walking distance. It’s not the coolest neighborhood, but it’s definitely the one that gets things done. If you want convenience above all else, this is where you stay.

Södermalm
The Hipster Peninsula
Södermalm is basically the opposite, there’s way too many cool pubs and cafés to get anything done. Here, you can go out for a quick coffee, and suddenly you are browsing vinyls and trying on a vintage jacket.
Great area for a group of friends, or a family with older kids.

Vasastan
Everyday Stockholm
Vasastan is where Stockholm drops the attitude and just gets on with life. It’s full of cafés, bakeries, leafy streets, and people walking their dogs to places that aren’t trying to be the next big thing. You won’t find the hipster stuff here, just a comfortable, lived‑in neighborhoods.
Gamla Stan
Historical & Atmospheric
Gamla stan is the medieval core of Stockholm. Filled with cobblestone lanes, colorful facades, historic landmarks, and plenty of restaurants and cafés. This is where you get the classic postcard views of the city. Touristy for sure, but for good reason.
It’s a great option for couples thanks to its charm and atmosphere, but less ideal for families or groups of friends since hotel rooms tend to be small and space is limited.

Östermalm
Upscale & Posh
Östermalm is the sophisticated, high-end side of Stockholm with wide elegant avenues, exclusive luxury shops, refined dining and upscale cafés. It’s the most expensive area in the city, as you probably guessed. If you’re looking for an upscale and polished base for your stay, this is it — and you’ll be close to Djurgården’s museums.
